Can not believe the audacity of Ford with the paint problems. Every EXPY I see around here has this problem. Of course, they use salt instead of sand, but the corrosion does seem excessive and ritual here on just about any expy over a few years old.

Getting rid of a Dodge because it rotted out, same year. My expy looks great now, but it came from out west. Just wondering if I will get ONE winter out of it before the bubbles start.....

Funny, you don't see rotted yoda sequoias here.

The reason the paint on Fords bubble is because the hood and hatch is made out of aluminum and the body is steel, once you put aluminun next to steel after so long aluminum starts to corrode but it takes a long while but when Ford paints their vehicles they dip the body parts in a chemical which by doing so it's suppose to help the paint dry quicker after being painted but the chemical they dip the body parts in befor painting helps react to the aluminum and speeds up the corrosion problem.

Now if i'm correct the vehicle should have a 10 year 100k mile cirrosion warranty on it but according to my dealer where i purchased my 2008 Expedition from says Ford wont warranty the corrosion untill it starts eating through the hood and hatch which dont seem right but thats why we have the corrosion problem, now if Ford would fix the problem we all would be happy.

not exactly true, the hoods on the 97-02 is also aluminum and they do not have this issue.

i have repaired a few expys(03-06) with this issue. after the repaint it never came back. i brought them down to bare aluminum and sealed, primed, base and clear'd them.

It was mainly the 3rd gens i was referring to mostly because since i own one Looked into it and when i wrecked my Expy 2 years ago the body shop sanded and tried to tread the hood for corrosion and with in a couple of months it came back but luckly its not spreading on my truck.

While I am not advocating doing this, but to meet the intent of what Ford wants, what you will need to do is to go out and start picking at the rust flakes and getting them off of the body. This will expose more metal which will then rust. The trick is that Ford will not replace until the rust has eaten through and you now have a hole. keeping the flakes on actually protects the metal underneath. I know it makes your truck look like hell for a little bit, but in the long run, are you getting what you are after?

Just saying. Not that I know anything about metallurgy or the like.

I am having paint peeling issues on my hood and fenders. I have seen several others in the area with the same issue. The paint peels off leaving the primer so there has to be an issue with one or the other. I sanded it down, reprimed and painted the area. When I removed the painters tape and newspaper it peeled off more paint. :wtf:

Painters tape!!! Really?? Damn!! :fca5278d:

Whats sad is my paint is in pretty good condition. Where it is still stuck to the vehicle that is..
