2000 Expedition XLT. When I start the car the needles on the dash all go to the highest pin possible, then they drop back to zero, then they go where they are supposed to be. Tach to 1000and the rest of the gauges read normal.

Has this happened to anyone else? I have heard many possible reasons. One is the battery is starting to go south.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank You

Battery I'd bet. If you disconnect the battery the reconnect it the dash does that. It's a self test.

Or a something grounding the in power circuit for the dash.

Thank you AvroAero and Just4fun. I replaced the battery today and all is well. I really appreciate your input. You probably saved me from having to look for a jump start.
