I just bought a 2008 limited from the local Ford dealer. It has 100k miles. I know they check fluid levels and do an oil change. Does anyone know what other maintenance is generally done when they turn a used vehicle so I don't duplicate any tune-up work? Any info would be appreciated.

They'll also do the air filter and in most cases, that's about it. They're not going to do plugs unless it's misfiring, brakes unless they're squealing, etc. They want to do put as little into the vehicle as possible to maximize profits. They will gladly send you on your way with a bad battery 80% worn pads, bald tires, etc. Really.

Yep, exactly. I don't think that should come as a surprise though. If it ain't broke, the dealer (and any dealer of any make, not just Ford) won't fix it. That type of stuff can be negotiated into your purchase, though.

Most dealers will do as little as possible to move a vehicle.

Did you ask the dealer what was done to the vehicle before you purchased it? Any service department records?

Thanks for the input guys. I want to be as thorough as possible with my maintenance before I start pulling the quads for camping trips.

I was given the invoice of what the dealer had accomplished. It had the oil change, air filter, and a few minor repairs such as replacing a couple lights. I had them mount new tires as part of the purchase agreement.
