Ok i noticed that they make adapters to put 6 1/2 in speakers in 6x8 and so on and so forth, but why? Does it give you a different sound? I know my 2000 is 6x8 all the way around and I was thinking of just replacing them with better speakers and no amp with an aftermarket head unit but if it gives you a better sound I may order the adapters.

It's because there are very few companies that make a 6 x 8, but nearly every speaker company on the planet makes a 6 1/2"

there is not a lot of sound difference in sound quality with size. the 6x8 have more speaker volume so its a little louder but its not always better. make sense? the quality comes from the company and wattage the speakers can handle. my kenwoods are i think 75watt rms 220 max. look at rms. thats the wattage the speakers can handle at continuous volume. stock decks put out about 50 watts per channel. give or take a few. so any speaker is good pretty much safe. i recommend 5x7 speakers cause more companys make them and they fit perfectly. but if you want 6x8s the prices are probably going to be more expensive. but crutchfield.com sells 6x8s so look at them there to get prices.

I can't remember if it's the 6x8 or the 5x7 that are pretty much a Ford thing. There are a lot more 6.5's to choose from.

Kicker makes a good 6x8 ks680 (best buy $99/pair or $85 from crutchfield), they do seem louder then 6 1/2's and i personally think that they deliver more mid bass. Just my 2 cents.
