I need to do a diff. change (2wd) this weekend. Do you guys recommend sticking with Ford spec'd stuff. Is it full synthetic or should I upgrade to one that is? I have the HD tow package.
Stupid stealership wants to charge me $200 >> Ripoff!

Stick with the proper spec.. I'm bias toward synthetic (RP)..
As long as you change it, when required.. All will be good.

Thank mindgame
Just checked manual and reads Ford synthetic 75w-140, so I'm sure any synthetic that weight would work.

Don't forget if it's a limited slip to add the modifier additive

Another question...my door jamb doesn't have the "L" in the axle code for Limited slip, so I assume no friction modifier needed. I have the RSC (roll stability control), so limited slip probably does not work with this option, correct? I'll check that with the dealership if I go with Ford fluid. What are good 75W-140 synthetic recommendations I can get at auto zone/o'reillys.

I like Royal Purple for fluids, but thats just me. Some think its to $$$ but I think rebuilding motors/trans/rear ends is to $$$ :893MrT-thumb:

I used Valvoline synthetic 75w-140. I has the LS additives, but don't really think it matters in non LSD. Funny thing, the manual states it holds 4.5 pints, but could only get 2 bottles (4 pints) in it before it started leaking. Got to looking and the drain plug is not low enough to drain everything, so it holds half a pint or so in the very bottom.
