Differential Questions

So Im new to Expeditions and 4x4's in general, and Im learning on the fly… Someone had made a suggestion in another thread to get an upgraded diff. What are the major differences and benefits to upgrading the differential(s)?? Should I? Ive got a 2002 4x4, and I have all time 4WD. I go to the snow several times a year, but ive never had a real 4x4 until now, so who knows, I may take it on some trails eventually or out to the desert. But for now Im just trying to figure out what is necessary and what isn't…

not necessary. leave it alone. you really only need to upgrade your gearing if you go bigger than a 35" tire and do a lot of offroading. if you just hit a little snow now and then, dont even mess with them.

I think maybe he means lockers or limited slip? Even then, not really necessary unless you find yourself stuck on the trail often enough to merit the cost.
