I've been lurking on here for about a month and finally joined this week because I knew the time to upgrade was coming. We went to a local tent sale we ended up coming home with a 2008 Expedition EL. Quite a jump from a 1998 Mountaineer. It has 49k on the odometer, cloth seats, and the DVD system. For those that noticed the rims they're 24" Liquid Metals. They were already on the truck when we picked it up. The short term plans are window tint, upgrading the rear wiper, and changing the trailer plug to a 5 pin plug. We have a boat in Arizona that we drive out to a few times a summer. So far I love the truck. And this forum has been a big help. I didn't see any bubbling on the rear hatch or on the hood. There is a an auxiallary cooler mounted in front of the radiator. Is this a tranny cooler? I don't think it has the tow package. But I wasn't really concerned. Our boat weighs 5k and we usually tow it about 10 miles total. Sorry for the bad cell phone pic. We haven't let it sit still long enough to take more pics.

Thanks. I was having issues with Tapatalk and had to jump on the real computer. That's the major plan for it. We have 2 kids, 2 large dogs, and 1 small dog. So we needed the extra room. Plus every once in a while we have a couple friends that go with us to go out on the boat. So this will fit our needs perfectly.

The tires are brand new as well. I need to take it back and get the fronts rebalanced. The steering wheel shakes above 65. My buddy that does tires for a living said the balance job is horrible with all the weights on it.

Let me know how that works out for you. I've had the shaking steering wheel on my 07 Expy EL since it was new. Sometimes it's worse than others, I've had 2 sets of aftermarket rims and 3 sets of tires and none have made a difference. I figured God just didn't want me to speed.

I'll definitly keep you posted. It seems for me it's a combination of speed and the freeway I'm on. I figure worse comes to worse I'll go to a local dealer and trade them in for some 20's.

I had the original OEM 20's on mine, and have had two sets of aftermarket 20's that have all had the same issue you are describing. Some freeways it's hardly noticeable, other freeways and times it feels like my wheels are going to vibrate off if I exceed 65mph.

65mph seems to be the magic number for me as well. When I did the test drive the shaking steering was painfully obvious and the salesman saw it from the back seat. So I had it added that they would check everything when signing the paperwork.

I'm on my second set of rims...24'z and now 26'z...what I've noticed is if the stack the weights when balancing they will continue to cause vibration...so instruct them to space out the wheel weights and that should go away...did for me...also...they need to put the wheels on evenly...meaning the nuts are all torque on...not put on by impact wrench...if they are hand tightened then torque correctly...should ride like a Cadillac

My buddy that changes tires for a living was pointing out the wheel weights. He was saying that it looks like someone just kept adding weight instead of removing and putting the weights in a new spot. Like right now there are wheel weights 180 degrees from each other. Which apparently isn't supposed to happen. I'm giving the dealership a chance since it's not costing me anything. If they don't fix it I'll take it to a real tire shop.

you can always try these. someone who used to be on here said he had them on his motorcycle and liked it.

Tire Balancing Products

Those are pretty cool.
Looks nice fellow EL owner! Liking the color very much.

Thank you. I can see it from my bench at work and the sun is hitting it now. I love the way it looks.

Quick update: I ordered the new wiper this morning. And I have a message in to my tint guy to get the windows done. Only other piece is the trailer plug. From my research here I'm guessing I don't have the towing package because I only have the 4 pin connector. Is it possible to order the 7 pin connector and if so will it plug right in? Sorry for the newb question. Work is getting in the way of my researching.:bawl:

yeah...when i had my 24's...they were balanced good...then one day...i got the wobble...1st the weights came off due to not setting properly so they fell off...then they just stacked them on in one spot...so i stress that if they arent spread over the wheel they will redo them...no issues...then once they didnt torque the wheels...used impact and i got the wobble again...corrected that and im good...

If you don't mind me asking, was there a noticable difference in mpg and off the line power with the bigger rims? I know an SUV isn't made for ultimate mpg, but I'd like to keep it decent if possible. It still has some decent pick up for having the bigger rims. But then I haven't driven one of these with stock size rims.

There may be...but I didn't notice because as soon as I put my rims on...I plug'd my programmer up for fuel economy and adjusted tire size for speed calibration
