Dropped off at the dealer this AM...still awaiting word... Stay tuned!
So what did they find out? I just noticed this same error on my Navigator... I have only gone to the accessory mode a couple times so not sure if it has happened before or not.

2018 Expedition Platinum started doing this after 10000 miles. Ford’s latest answer(three days ago) is that power is assigned to each module at startup and some don’t get enuff power so the fault is triggered. It is annoying and who would buy a car that has a system fault. Only time will tell if Ford finds a solution.

I'm gonna bring this thread back from the dead... currently have the same message as OP when just in accessory mode. Also experienced a wrench light while driving recently to add to my pain... Dealer checked the over-the-air telemetry and reported a number of modules were not talking with each other to go along with a "low boost pressure bank A" DTC code that's stored. I have an appointment with the dealership for next Tuesday so hopefully I'll get some answers then.

My personal hypothesis is that the battery and/or alternator is failing and isn't providing sufficient power which in turn is causing the modules to intermittently drop out...

I have the same message only with key on engine off as the OP about the drive mode selection. I have no issues and none when driving. I checked the owners manual (paper version and online) and nothing is informed about this so I assume it’s just trying to explain in key on engine off you just cant use the mode button to select anything until the engine is started.

In my case it didn't start displaying this fault message until it started getting noticably cooler out in the evenings and early morning. I don't believe this to be a normal message that is displayed when the button is pushed to start the accessories (foot not on brake).
