I'm really hungry for a dual battery setup but the engine bay just doesn't have the right configuration to host two batteries. Before I start pulling the rear interior panels to check for space, has anyone else done it? I am adverse to putting it in livable passenger compartment areas such as under a seat. I'm in talks with a guy who installs solar panels on RVs to get one on the roof IF I can get a battery inside one of the panels.

Btw,did you know you can get ballistic panels for the front doors? No, I'm not some Armageddon prepper. I just live in the heavily gun controlled area of Los Angeles, CA & there are a lot of road rage car to car shootings.

What about the rear area behind 3rd row seat. The very rear is pretty much where most go with extra batteries, whether it be the trunk of a car, or in your case right or left rear. You can have long positive and negative battery cables made up. Any battery supplier like Interstate or a custom Stereo install shop can do it. Then use a battery isolator, and wire it all up.

Are you speaking about adding a battery box in the cargo area like a subwoofer? Unfortunately, I need to keep the versatility of the flat & wide cargo area. Not only do I actually sometimes transport 7 people, the fold down cargo area serves as my baby changing station since not a lot of places have one in the men's room. Under those panels isn't a lot of vertical space even if I gutted it out.

I got a dual battery set up, had it for about 1.5 years, (i dont need it anymore though) my second battery is located inside the spare tire, meaning inside the wheel where it looks like a bowl when hung up, easy to run wires to it and no one will ever know it's there, I got it steel wire around the top cover so that if I drop the spare tire, the battery will drop a couple of inches, not all the way to the floor and keeps it hidden from view if driving behind me w/o my spare tire in.

I have a 2015 Ford Expedition Limited 4 x 4.

What is the purpose of a dual-battery setup?

What type of battery do you want to put in with what dimensions? I dont know much about the solar charging thing but I thought a solar setup would prefer a gel type battery vs the traditional automotive lead acid. I want to add a solar charging option for camping but still have not found a design or been able to learn enough to make one myself. Will your battery also be a draw on the alternator or solar charge only? Do you upgrade the alternator?

There is a lot of space inside the rear side panels. When road tripping, I pop the tray and drink holders out and store a massive amount of stuff inside there then put tray and drink holder covers back in. 2014 EL

Id go with Habbibies setup. You got to be flexible when your recreating the wheel. You need to say In your post, all the types of restriction you have, although life as well as your SUV is full of compromises when trying to add something that wasn't installed through Ford. Don't make us try to guess. Tell us up front, we all including myself don't like to guess or games. Ok!

For me the dual battery setup would have a deep cycle battery power the accessories I have such as a 24/7 dash & other electronics that I would be using but don't want to idle the engine when using them. Ideally the solar panel would be able to charge/maintain the batteries & handle minor load (why I called the RV solar guy). I didn't realize those panels popped out (thank you). I just checked & my passenger side has the rear a/c unit but the driver side looks like a good option in front of the wheel well. I'm alsothinking about getting one of those travel freezers for hunting too. Yes, this expedition will be living up to its name.

Why I can't do the spare tire setup despite it being an excellent idea:View attachment 26998

I always wanted a train horn/air horn set up, it's a nice wake up call to the drivers who think just because they are signaling they can force their way into your lane, got anymore info on your set up, brand, power source, sound clip?

The ballistic panels are made by Angel Armor and they install in a minute. Lots of the fleet cars have them and they're usually identified by a sticker on the inside door trim panel.

Just grab under the lip and they pop out??
Better place to start, front, back, or side?

Am I looking at pics of air horns correct? The trumpet part is facing towards the rear of vehicle , not front. Wouldn't that piss off the guy behind not in front, like Habbibie said. Wouldn't it be great to scare the be jeezes out of that pesky Prius Uber driver? Or sir crudly driving that white BMW, thinking he's all that. Love to see him spill his Starbucks fancy coffee all over his Brooks Bros suit! 130 decibals of oh no you don't!

I pull on the middle outside (side by window) toward me, and UP to get it past one of the "lips" then work my way around. Then after its out reach in and push the cupholder out from bottem while freeing up its "lips" from the top.

Not sure if this helps, but we've had an Optima Yellow top battery for four years. Dash cam runs 24/7. We've never had a dead battery or hard start, even if we don't drive it for a week. In my opinion these batteries are great.

Check these out. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...tailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=tapainc-20

I haven't tried it yet but came across someone who had on another forum.

The 15 inches is too long to clear the standard battery area in the 3.5 ecoboost engine bay. Otherwise I would have gone with the genesis offroad universal battery kit at just 14" long. https://www.genesisoffroad.com/Universal-Dual-Battery-Kit-p/151-udbk.htm

They've come in 100% handy along with the front bumper. Most of the time they think of cutting me off, see the bumper then choose not to. The common occurrence they don't see me or hear my stock horn? the air horn helps correct their path.
The horns are facing forward but mounted in the rear, the exhaust tip is facing rearward. I really need these horns in the front of the vehicle tho…. I already have had one person ignore my horns & hit me. Thanks to the bumper they have a hole in their QP and I have nothing.
