Efans work by removing the parasitic drag caused by the weight of the clutch fan. It also reduces the constant spinning of the fan. It does have a clutch, but even when disengaged, it doesn't spin freely.

In reality, when going at speed (say +30mph) the amount of air being forced in supersedes the amount drawn by the fan, so the fan is really only needed for stop and go traffic. An efan should really only turn on during these times.

With a variable speed controller, the spike in turn on current is minimized. Also, it may not be neccessary to run the fan at full load. As someone else said, the drain for when they are on doesn't really exceed other "big" electric accessories.

Now if you dont need to mess with the controller can it just be left alone and still be benefitial.

E-fans FTW! You will get better of both worlds by reducing the engine drag as stated above. And even if your fans were on all the time, thats not such a bad thing, its not going to be pulling all that much power. All you need is something temperature sensing. Or, just put it on a rocker switch inside the cab and turn it on and off that way. Plus you will have a cool little switch that you can mess with people with, "no hunny that button is to arm the nitous system" lol.

Its not on my list of current mods, but if you can find out a price, I might be interested. I think trucks should come with e fans from factory anyway. It can't be much more on the price tag considering how much you spend these days, at least put them on vehicles with towing packages to help cool the motor down a little bit and gain a little more power.

the new f150s have them. look cool too. and also! GO TO MY LINK AND WATCH THE VIDEO I POSTED!!!! that kit comes with everything you will ever need for an e fan install!!! temp prob goes in between the rad fins and your good to go. a study was done by i think flex a lite that put 1 fan on an old 454 vette in the desert and let it idle for a few hours. the fan was pulling enough air threw that it never over heated. also when they drove around the fan was off. so you really done need a switch. just some sort connection that says to turn on only when the key is on. so if its hot out one day they dont turn on. haha that would just be weird.
