So, just trying to figure out before I blow money on the trans oil, mercon v is the correct oil? I'm looking to put royal purple in everything on this.

Yes, that is the factory standard. Usually others fit each others specs, and newer versions may be available, and I am surprised no one has chimed in with an opinion.

I kept reading more and more that plain mercon is required for the E4OD/4R100. I am still going to be using royal Purple as it is compatible though. Gonna cost me an arm and a leg as I need about 5 gallons between the transmission and transfercase.

Figured another belated update... Got the pump kit in Thursday night. Replaced the last bushing in the transmission and all the seals. No gotta get the torque converter next pay day and the oil then I will be ready to put it back together. Gotta get more wire for my welder so I can assemble my exhaust though so it will be a little bit longer before the expy is road worthy.

Another update... Managed to source a torque converter for cheap. $50! A guy a couple miles from my house had his expy listed on Craigslist for parts as he rolled his, he is fine thank goodness. He's selling his engine tomorrow and as soon as it's pulled from the engine bay he's calling me to pick up the torque converter. Now I will be able to put everything together and all I have to do is get oil and wire for my welder. I'm guessing probably one more month!!! Hell yeah!!!

looks like breaks down for 98 as per attached pix, however, it has been noted in this thread, for one, that 4r100 started as an option in, or at least came on some 98s, vs the more common e40d for that year so not really a sure thing without double checking

i'm assuming the below info comes from the fsm
these trannies all use the same driveshaft? for a given setup?

like say 4x4, 9.75 rear etc
