I get the same thing at the dealership. Had a technician spill a few drops of oil in the engine bay one day and he came out and personally apologized saying he tried his best to clean everything up. Even though its my daily driver, I still keep it extremely clean (or try to, Ive got two kids under 4 years old...)I wash mine before I’m scheduled to work on it. Keeps me much cleaner that way. Funny too, when I go to sell my vehicle, they always comment how good of shape it’s in, engine compartment included. But I hear you, hard to justify keeping something clean no one ever sees....but I’m the guy who pulls my refrigerator out every so often and vacuums and cleans the floor underneath :-/

Every time I wash the truck (I get the under body wash) water sprays up into the engine compartment so I always wipe down all of the plastic coves, relays and anything else I can reach. Just as information, The 2007 5.4 L had a cover on the motor. The later year 5.4's did not.

The 15-17s have them as well.I’ve seen them on 08 units as well, after looking it up it says it’s an 07-08 MY specific part. My guess would be cost savings would be the reason to not have it. Looks better and puts a finishing touch on it. Mine has never harmed anything so I’d have no reason to get rid of it.
