Good day all!

I'm working on a 2001 Expy, 4.6l Romeo, 2v, 2wd, with 230,000 miles, engine installed.

The only part I've had to replace in the past 17 years (up until now) was an $18 starter solenoid. Love this thing like the day I bought it.

Unfortunately, a timing set has been added to the list, which is where this question is rooted.

So, the oil light came on one day while turning (or stopping, I forget). Opened her up and just like many others, found a broken chain guide.

I have the timing chain issue covered, but from what I hear, the oil pickup tube is likely clogged and will need cleaning. I'm guessing I'll need to raise the engine and remove the oil pan as well. Drats!

In an attempt to minimize the workload, would it be possible to clean the pan and pickup from above using the area at the front of the pan that's now accessible from the timing cover being removed.

Maybe partially filling the pan and pickup tube from above with a solvent with the drain plug installed and allowing it to sit? Then applying shop air from the top of the pickup tube to back flush everything into the pan, and then pouring a solvent directly into the pan, allowing everything to drain and remove any contaminants from the pan as well? Any other ideas, or adjustments to this?

Is this even remotely possible (without obvious significant risk), or simply hair brained?

I've already ran into an issue when I broke the driver's side chain guide bolt that also holds the oil pump, but I drilled and tapped it and it seems good to go. I just want to put this thing to bed.

I'm hoping someone will channel their inner "Lloyd Christmas" and let me know there's a chance, lol...

TIA for any help and/or suggestions!
