Engine Break In and Initial Oil Change

API SN didn’t quite cut it for turbo/direct injection (calcium, pre-ignition etc) so they came out with SN+, newest spec is SP and it’s best.

There's actually a newer SQ spec, but SP is fine for the Ecoboost. Just change every 5K and don't worry, be happy.

Did some digging on the specification in the owner's manual - WSS-M2C961-A1 - and the MotorCraft synthetic blend meets that criteria:

So that tells me full synthetic is not required by Ford.

If Mobil 1 full synthetic is on sale, do you avoid it based upon your advice in post #14?

I just bought my first Expedition. 2025 Active Max. I just turned 1600 miles and will be scheduling oil change. I have used Royal Purple for years in many vehicles and have always had good results so, I plan on doing the same in my Expedition

Like JohnnyG said: Your engine Will put a lot of metal in the oil in the first 500 miles (Fact). That is the average (estimated) break-in time for bearing surfaces to smooth out from manufactured surface roughness to the eventual happy spot (if you properly operate and lubricate).

The guy in the video Johnny talks about is great and uses some science, totally worth watching. However there is more to it that that but we have to find a resolution that we can deal with and not get to crazy.

Change your oil often!
