My wife drives our 2006 Eddie Bauer. On numerous occasions when travelling at decent speeds, an ENGINE FAIL SAFE light comes on and the vehicle loses all power. She coasts to the shoulder and it restarts, driving fine unitl the next time it occurs. Dealer cannot determine problem, saying she would have to leave it where it dies on the shoulder so they can tow it back before it's reset by restarting. Any guidance will be appreciated.

I believe most people are having issues with the throttle body. Have you cleaned it?

If it happens again, ask her what the temp reading is. It could be a bad temp gauge/sender and it reads the vehicle is overheating and shuts down. Don't really know, but if it restarts right away, it sounds like a bad sensor or something of the sort.

just googled it, most people are saying the throttle body.

A few say a camshaft sensor. Both are cheap to rule out.
