engine swap help...wat is the difference

i got a 03 expedition that a few days ago started to knock on my wife ill be home from deployment in like 2 weeks but now i need to find another motor to swap into my expedition so it wont just be sitting in my driveway collecting dust...i been up and down ebay and my wife has called around the local yunk yards...crown vic engines are in abundance just wanted to know if there was a difference in them aside from the iron block or can i just us a 03 mustang gt engine since it makes more power and about the same torque...but again its a iron block...any help or info would work to help me decide

well i think i have a rod knock...not sure if to try to replace the bearing and same cash for a better engine or just trash it and try to save money while it sits in my driveway
