I was just wondering about my expy's engine. If it were to go out, would you guys try for a new engine or get a whole new truck in this situation? Lord knows I don't want my girl to give out on me but it was just a thought. A buddy of mine said in this economy, he'd probably go for the engine.

I'm in that exact boat right now. my expy needs a new engine. cost of rebuilt engine + labor is still much less than a new truck.

These things don't exactly keep their value, either.

Depends on the condition of the rest of the truck, you can get great deals on slightly used SUV's. I went ahead and replaced my SUV vs. replacing the engine and I'm happy I went this route.

A quality remanufactured 2v motor is $2300 shipped.
A 2v performance version (320hp) is about $3200 +shipping

Although I can certainly do the rebuild myself, the down time and the warranty would make me go with a reman.

I totaly agree the warranty and lack of down time would be worth it and 320 HP sounds sooooooo nice

thats not insurance fraud, its just getting your money out of those grubby bastards that take it every month! hahah

if the truck is in good shape, an engine replacement would probably be the best way to go. but if you start finding a bunch of other stuff that is going to need to be replaced, i would probably try and find a slightly newer version of your expy. that is what i did. and it would be best to get rid of it before the engine took a complete dump. thats just my opinion.
