I got into my car this morning and cranked it up...saw check Engine light on ..and gear shift would not shift out of Park. engine would continue to die too unless I kept foot on gas pedal to keep running. Eventually got car shifted into Neutral with Engine not running then cranked car in neutral and manage to shift into reverse so I could get car out of driveway onto the curb. it was blocking my other good car in the driveway. any ideas on what the problem could be ,,,I have about 56000 miles on the car. Sound like one of the sensors is faulty and not allowing the car to idle and keep running....must have been some interlock involved too that kept me from shifting out of Park with engine running. HELP

Most likely you have a gummed up Idle Air Control Motor (IAC). It is a $50 part and takes about ten munites to replace. You can try removing it and cleaning it. It is the tubular objected bolted to the intake with two screws. It has a single electrical connector on one end of the tube.
