Cancer has gotten the best of the pre O2 cat, drivers side. Local shop what's 225$ to cut out the 2 drivers side cats and weld in 1 in its place. I just think this is too much money. I have seen cats for under 75$. My question is this, is there something magical about the cat the exhaust shop wants to weld in? Or can I just get a generic cat and have someone weld it in? If so, is there a preferred cat that most people go for in cases like this? I'm wanting a stock replacement, nothing fancy.

Someone has already installed a magnaflow muffler on the Expy, and it has enough sound to keep me happy. It's single exit with a standard chrome tip, looks and sounds nice to me. I'd eventually like to go duals, but that's down the road a little. Right now I'm just getting the maintenance done that needs to be done. The hole was jb welded, but where it is I don't think jb weld can take the heat or the hole is just to big. I didn't know if there was a preferred cat people are using or if a generic replacement would be just as good. Overall, I'm loving this truck.

That's probably not far off. The last set of cheap cats I bought were $60 a piece. Subtracting that from the price gives you a labor cost of $165. Out here that's about right for 2 hours of labor. Don't forget going from two cats to one will require more pipe. Something else is check the warranty. Shops don't usually warranty parts you bring in yourself. So if the new cat goes out you're SOL.
