Extract gasoline

-2003 Expedition EB 5.4L

Every once in a while an occasion comes up and i need gasoline for my generator, lawnmower, dirtbikes... And it would be nice if i could just extract gas from my Expedition since the closest station is 15 mins away... So heres my idea. Id like to extract fuel using the OEM fuel pump, and tap a T-fitting at the fuel rail. I downloaded schematics and found that i can feed power from either the fuel pump relay or the fuel shutoff switch. Now my question is for the fuel flow. Does the Expedtion have a fuel return type circuit or returnless? And if it is returnless, will i get any fuel out of the fuel rail when the fuel pump is running and the engine is off?

Might be easier to just siphon by time you add ($) it all up IMHO.

sounds like adding a point of failure, risk of fire to me, but hey thats just me, have had to deal with 2 gasoline engine fires. I'd just buy another fuel can

use a shrader valve in the fuel rail .find a hose that you connect to it then turn the key to the on position an instant gas it will be under pressure so be careful.

bcmaxx - I understand the risks And i was already doing this same setup for several years on my 4 cyl car, but I just sold it. So now id like to do it to my Expy

JUST4FUN - turning it to the on position without running the car will only run the fuel pump for 3 seconds. I will be feeding power to either the relay or the fuel shut-off switch. As far as the schrader valve method, are they gasoline compatible? and can they withstand higher pressures during normal running of the car? I think Id rather run a brass Tee and plug the end when not in use.

Not sure if the 2003 has return or returnless system.

There should be a schrader valve located on the fuel rail. With my 2000 it is located on the passenger side fuel rail near the firewall. This is to check fuel pressure when servicing. Not sure what kind of flow rate you would get through it with it depressed. Intended for pressure readings not volume.

I am with some of the others. Would prefer to siphon, maybe even purchase a siphon pump to avoid any potential complications but of course its your choice.

.what about putting a tee in front of the fuel filter.then running a fuel hose up to the filler area put maybe a shut off there it would be pressureized all the time though

Tap off the fuel filter is a great idea! Looks much cleaner than tapping off the fuel rail But instead of a shut off valve, im going to use a brass plug. Id rather have something that doesnt wear out, the seals inside a shut off valve could possibly leak over time and i wouldnt know it. Ill just have to climb under each time i need gas.... which isnt very often btw.
