If you only press the lock button once doesn't it still [silently] turn on the alarm, then you push it again if you want the horn confirmation? And disarming doesn't make a sound either way.

hey guys...i had my problem taken care of by the guy who installed the "alarm" portion of the system. i believe the keyless remote with the key fob is just that "keyless remote", not an "alarm" unless it is upgraded as an alarm.....make sense?...........anyways yes you are right while as an "alarm", and set as silent arming, one press of the lock button is silent and the second press gives you an audible horn honk as well, hope i did'nt confuse you more than i am!

Not true at all. One push of the lock button produces a chirp (pause) chirp. Two push's just produce more chirps. Disarm or the unlock button also produces a chirp. And it is very annoying.
Anyone know how to make the chirps go away (without disconnecting the siren or the horn) Please respond

Hi! I had a 2001 Expedition and it did *exactly* what you describe. I tried to get it disabled so it would just quietly lock when pressing the button once and only chirp if I pressed it again. This way I could avoid waking the neighborhood just to lock the vehicle.

The dealer told me it was designed to chirp when you pressed the button, even just once, and there was nothing to do about it.
So, that is the way we left it. I always thought that Ford should have made it a user configurable item and still find it hard to believe there was not another solution. But, I never pursued it. Now the '01 is gone to car heaven and is being recycled...:( ....

P.S. The 1999 Expedition I owned and the 2004 both work as I like: One button press and the vehicle locks. Press it twice and it locks and chirps once.

Got an '05.

Any way to make it honk (or chirp) when DIS-arming?

Factory alarm system.

Here's the reason: I got an aftermarket remote start with the bypass module for the '05 alarm. However, apparently the shock sensor can't be bypassed and when I hit the remote start without unlocking the car first from the factory key fob, the alarm will go off. So right now I'm stuck with first unlocking the car, then hitting the remote start.

But I'd like to have an audible response that the car is unlocked so I can hear it from a distance. When it's daylight, I usually can't see the under-mirror courtesy lights that go on when you unlock it.

Thoughts?
