Me too! I can’t wait until they get rid of the combustion engine all together and go all electric with 1000 mile plus range...and totally quiet. Someday

.......NEVER!!!! Gasoline powered engines will be here for a long time to come even if market share slowly decreases (it’s not currently). I’m not going to deny electric will make advancements and get better, and that’s probably great for the long haul. But don’t expect the big GM and Ford pushrod V8 crate motors to be going anywhere....along with many stock combustion engines, too many enthusiasts that actually enjoy driving and wrenching on cars.

That's what the buggy wip/ "real" horse powered carriage enthusiasts said too, but here we are. I hear you, I love the sound of a nice engine, especially a big V8, but those days are winding down faster than most realize. I heard the next Suburban is going to have a FOUR cylinder (turbo) option!

I agree and disagree on points. Much of this is driven by CAFE, not necessarily the market. Enthusiasts will always demand a nice pushrod V8 (althogh a niche) ford and GM still make them in crate form up to the big blocks. Electric has more hurdles than just the car itself you also have major infastracture hurdles (power grid). the internal combustion engine will likely be around a while as the infrastructure is there but I agree electric will gain market share and become more practical, but that’s not to say pistons are dead.

Gas would have to be $5+/a gal, before electric vehicles, see savings. Who wants to drive Nissan Leafs? Electric Vehicles in the rust belt, with salt on roads? I don't think so. The internal combustion engine only uses 15%, of the energy in gasoline for motion. The other 85% is wasted and turned into heat. Harness that 85% and you will be a Billionaire.

Almost no heat lost
Increased fuel mileage 30% also
Lubrication was a problem as I recall

If the motivation is there, the issues I am sure can be solved
Think about this
Today's GDI Turbo charged engines are about 25% efficient
What if they could be made 80-85% efficient?

anybody figure out how to turn the fake noise off? I called my dealer about it. They apparently have a tech who can work on it, but wanted me to drop it off so they can figure it out. I said no, I want them to find out how to do it before I get there so I can make an appointment and wait for it. I think it should take about 10 minutes.

Interesting, I first called Ford Customer Service and spoke to somebody named Ari or something like that. Think it was in India. Completely unhelpful, he had no idea what he was talking about. I asked to talk to someone who knew more, or his supervisor, or somebody who wouldn't tell me it was the AC noise, but got left on perma hold. Ridiculous.

Thanks for the updated link. I found this before after video on a raptor, i’m Not sure it even makes that big a difference when it’s turned off... idk. I’m on the fence on turning it off in my Navi. Here is the video:

I turned off the fake noise with FORScan in my 2018. It is now pretty quiet in the cabin and I can hear the natural sound of the engine. Once you get used to the actual sound it is much easier to hear/sense sounds that aren’t normal and make require some further attention to see if a problem is starting.

Where did you find the codes to turn it off in forescan?
Just got a 2018 platinum and I don’t want any extra road noise.

Took my Expy into the dealer for an oil change today and asked them to turn off the fake engine noise. They told me the XLT doesn't have it. They searched for the module and it didn't pull up. Are people sure it's in all trim levels?
