Consult your owners manual. Capacities and spec. section. Ford recommends WSSM2C946 Ford part #XO5w30-QSP(syn blend). 'Optional US'- 'Mexico/Canada require' XO-5w30 QES Super Premium Full synthetic. Your vehicle has an oil life monitor. Use it as a guide. I have seen videos of EB oil changes. It looks messy and not fun.

Zero mess if you know what ur doing. One bucket to catch the oil in the pan when plug removed. One bucket to catch small amount of oil from the filter oil tray.

Synthetic oil has different 'tiers'. Mobil 1 is 'tier III' and made from base stock(crude oil/recycled motor oil). Mobil 1, now has a better 'extended performance' and 'annual protection' versions($10/qt). Royal Purple and Red line are true synthetics and tier V.

Changed it first at 300 miles and at 3k for the second time. Synthetic oil is superior in every way regardless of drain intervals.. saying it's only worthwhile for extended drain intervals is just ignorant. I've used synthetics exclusivity since 1975 at frequent intervals in personal ,service and drag race use.

Amen brother! I do the same change intervals...all our vehicles 3K or less which equates to about 200 engine hours....on our off road equipment like loaders, welding machines, compressors, gensets, etc we change them at 100 hours. As for oils...gasoline are dino Castrol, diesel gets Mobil Delvac. The '16 Ecoboost 3K and ignore the oil life percent and it gets Motorcraft Semi. We are slowly changing everything over to Motorcraft Semi Synth.

Wow! Ignorance abounds..frequent drain intervals are a necessity no matter what kind of oil you use. 3 thousand miles of oil contamination is still reason to change the oil no matter what kind you use. You talk about heat? How hot do you think your turbos can get? Regular oil wile coke up much faster than synthetic oil. And if you still have the auto stop start, you increase your start ups by a huge margin, and start up is the place where most wear occurs. Synthetic oil flows more freely during cold starts.plus the better additive packages and detergents. There is no comparison synthetic is vastly superior in every way.I suggest you find better sources for your oil information.you have been mislead.

Wow! You and I think alike, you are absolutely correct! We don't belong on these forums. LOL

How do you reset the IOLM? First oil change tonight at 6k miles and the darn thing isn't recognizing that it has new oil in it. Maybe we should call it the ignorant oil life mommy?

Quick googling doesn't turn up immediate results other than a link to the procedure for what it says are 2015-2018 SUVs, but my "vehicle" screen doesn't have a selection for oil life reset.

Do I just need to wait this thing out?

It’s not something it recognizes on its own. Shame on the dealer for not resetting it for you.

From the main menu scroll to:

Settings
Vehicle
Oil Life
Press and hold the OK button until the thing resets

This was posted in Gen 3 thread and was quite interesting. Many folks use Blackstone (oil analysis) testing to see what is actually going on with motor wear, etc. This is their thoughts on what oil to use based on the data they have collected over the years via customers testing their oil.

Here is the thread in which Viper10000 was kind enough to post his oil testing results on his ecoboost expedition.

Thanks AggieGrad!

I was trying to do it from the 8" "console" screen instead the 4" gauge cluster screen.

I change my own oil so I can't blame the dealer for this one!

:)
