Everytime I have needed to bring my expy to the Ford dealer for service I have had to wait weeks to get an appointment. I cant just bring it to the dealer(s) around me unless I make an appt which are booking out weeks...

My factory Powertrain warranty runs out in about 2000 miles and Im looking into extended service coverage. I am hesitant to go with a Ford ESP because, as I understand it you can only bring the vehicle to a Ford dealer ..but appt's are being booked out weeks on average. I think going with a different 3rd party extened warranty company ( Endurance, Car Shield etc) might be better because you can bring it to your personal mechanic shop that can see the vehicle alot sooner even next day..

If i have a misfire code, for example ,I dont want to be stuck not driving my suv for almost a month because Ford cant see me until then.......

Does it take anyone else forever to get a appt with Ford dealers? I see alot of people on here saying "just take it to the dealer" but thats not possible without an appt around my parts... Boston area.

I see the problem with waiting but Fords warranties include a rental vehicle, can be used at every Ford dealer including ones in Mexico and Canada. 3rd party warranties can only be at certified shops which means some areas may not even have one, abd usually carry a deductible,

So I alwys buy the Ford ESP....BUT.....buy it from Flood Ford and it is MUCH less and the same warranty as this is a Ford ESP as well. Raptor Guy, you are 100% correct in your post about rental car is included.....but......It realy does not work that way at all as you will get every excuse in the world as they will NOT just give you a free rental. We don't have any vehicles to loan out right now, you must have an appointment and we are weeks out right now.....blah blah blah ano no rental. Raptor, you are correct, just not as easy as they make it sound. OP just plan on waiting weeks and leave your EXPY and just wait.....not many other options as even third party shops can't see you for a week or more. FLOOD FORD has the best ESP pricing!

Ford's warranty>ANY warranty you can get. Ford dealers have the "in" with Ford on warranty stuff. There is no waiting for a "3rd party inspector" to come out at their leisure and inspect, etc.
A lot of folks aren't making it clear, their appts booked weeks or months out are because they're waiting for a loaner.

The added frustration and issues you will experience with a 3rd party completely negate any savings you may find. I would stick with the ford plans at this time.
Pricing is not the problem... The issue is that if we go with a Ford ESP it will take forever just for Ford to be able to look at the vehicle for a mechanical problem and you could be waiting weeks/months for a next available appt with my local Ford dealers and unable to have a vehicle for that time.

What makes you think a random third party shop waiting on a 3rd party warranty company inspector will be any quicker? Seriously.
Also, read the fine print on those 3rd party warranties, especially what is covered and isn't as well as ancillary benefits. Ford's is just better. All around. Zero headache.

Ford service advisor: " Kelly Ford how can I help you?"

Me: "Hello, My ford has a check engine light and the codes are for cylinder 1 & 3 misfire, Can I bring it in? I also have the Ford extended service plan"

Ford Service advisor: "We are booked out about a month sir and wont be able to look at it until then"

Me: screwed without vehicle for a month.

there are a lot of third parties that will “warrantee” your truck. Check them out and call to see who accepts that company.
If you only have one ford dealer in a 25-30 mile radius, look into third party.
The “is it worth it” is subjective, if it costs you $5000 to cover the truck, and you never use the coverage. No, not worth it. If you have a lemon and take it in monthly. Yes. Probably is worth it.
Also search the forum, lot of posts about ford ESP and flood ford, Lombard, Ziegler, etc.

Not to mention service everywhere is an issue, maybe not as bad as Ford dealers but there are many reasons for that, including tons of recalls and warranty related work. Many of those 3rd party warrantees almost entirely leverage non Ford parts for repairs, Ford sometimes uses reman parts but they are still Ford OEM. Actually, maybe that's not a bad thing lol.

Good luck either way. Things are rough all around

My two cents:

For years, I have purchased new vehicles, bought the manufacturer’s service plan and kept my vehicles a long time.

I bought a new 2015 Ford Expedition Limited 4x4 and purchased the Ford Premium Care service plan ($100 deductible per visit with 10-days of rental car coverage).

This was my first Ford after 45 years of owning GM and Dodge vehicles.

Under warranty, there were numerous defects repaired. Once the new-car warranty expired, I had a water pump fail, a door check strap break, ignition coil fail, degas bottle and coolant hoses fail, transmission fail (51 days to repair due to lack of parts), and now - the steering gear (vehicle at Ford dealer now for 33 days after diagnosis - awaiting a backordered part).

The vehicle has been under a safety recall for a potential HVAC front fan fire since August - with parts estimated to be available in the first three months of 2023.

Ford paid for a rental vehicle (not a full-size SUV) for the transmission repair and now for the steering gear repair due to the lack of part’s availability (after my plan’s 10-day rental payment).

The quality, reliability and lack of parts from Ford has been dismal. Although I will never purchase another Ford product, the extended service plan has paid for itself several times over - and provided a rental car now for 83 days and counting).

I would never buy a third-party extended warranty. I do not believe Ford would have paid for a rental vehicle (after my plan’s limit) if I didn’t have a Ford plan.

Good post! Thank you. I may have to switch to a Ford ESP.

You might to consider something if you’ve got mods on the vehicle… if Ford is paying they look down on changes to the vehicle. On the other hand, if the money is coming from a third party vendor; game on. They’ll fix anything. Just my opinion.

Went to Flood Ford and like what I see. I've never bought an ESP on any new vehicle I've ever purchased, but my Expedition is my tow vehicle and I plan on keeping it for 125,000+ miles. So, my question is which plan is the best value from Ford - Base, Extracare or Premium coverage?

My service guy says that most 3rd party plans are OK. But they generally have an hourly rate cap. And you get to pay the difference. For a big job, that can be expensive. I just stick with Ford’s ESP.
