ESP Plans and Local Ford Dealer Reviews

. Just yesterday I spoke to a rep at FordProtectPlans.com about the Premium Care plan for a 21 XLT Max I recently purchases with 44K miles. I'm considering the 6 year 60K mile Premium Care plan for around $3900. Since the vehicle I purchased is past thew 36K factory warranty an inspection is required. I was told $118 for the inspection by them and another Ford ESP plan someone else mentioned wanted $200 for the inspection. After reading numerous mixed reviews about local Ford dealers and it really gets insanely difficult. How does anyone find an excellent local Ford service dealership??

$3900 for 6 yrs/60k seems really overpriced. Your vehicle has 16k extra to hit 60k mark. That takes just about a year or perhaps a little more time. If I were you, I wouldn't buy it. Back to January 2024 when I purchased my ESP premium plan, I paid $2980 for 9 yrs/125k/200 deductible, and that includes lighting pkg.

$48,000/5 years mines was $3200 . I think $3900 for 6 years /60k is a good price relative

When did this 5-year/48K start? The day after factory bumper to bumper warranty expired, or the day you purchased your brand new vehicle? This question actually applies to OP's situation as well. If OP's plan will start from the date when he/she purchased the used vehicle with 44k mileage, then the price of $3900 is acceptable to me.

I came up with my figures by plugging in the op's information into the zeigler website: 2021 , 44500 miles, State of LA. 72 months, 60k miles.

I came up with entirely different figures earlier this morning when I went to the Ziegler website. Their price was about $1500 less than the first one I was quoted by another online source. If I understand correctly the used car coverage for a vehicle with44.5K miles through the Ford Protect Premium Care plan should be the exact same coverage everywhere regardless of location. The only difference seems to be the price that is being quoted. Ziegler has a downloadable inspection form and it is the responsibility of the individual to go to a Ford dealership and pay them directly to complete the inspection and send it in with a receipt confirming payment of inspection.

I asked Lambert to price match Zeigler and they did
They sent an inspector for $119 (took couple business days)

I would still advise to get a car that is eligible for Premium Care without inspection because it is too much hassle and uncertainty.

From my understanding a car past the 36K miles requires an inspection to be eligible for the Premium Care. I purchased my 21 expedition several months ago with 42K miles.

@Greg Woodart either that or if you get your used Ford from a Ford dealer it should be Gold Certified which on its own includes some sort of limited warranty and then you can buy ESP without inspection as well.

My ford was purchased from a dealership. The dealership, however, was a Nissan dealership that is part of All-Star automotive group owning about a dozen dealerships of various vehicle brands. When I purchased the Expedition they told me ONLY used Nissan vehicles qualify for their limited warranty.

I've had good luck with Lombard Ford also for Ford warranties purchased on the Internet. The problem is with the local dealers' lack of quality and vehicle knowledge.

Check with Granger Ford. They gave me $50 over MSRP on the plan for my Bronco. My local dealer and the Ford ESP both told me they couldnt compete with Granger's pricing.

Purchased the top-tier ESP plan once our 36k warranty was nearing its end. Expy developed a coolant leak later that year. I thought I was covered, since the Premium ESP plan covers so many components, it's easier to read what's NOT covered (as the brochure read). Leather seating surfaces, glass, and brake pads.

Turns out, anything Ford considers a "hose" is also not covered. Coolant leak was excluded as it required new hoses.

Last week, she's in for annual alignment at the suspension shop. They notice both rear shocks leaking fluid.

Again, I thought, must be covered under our top-tier ESP plan.

Nope. Wrong again. Ford considers shocks wear-and-tear items and hides them neatly in that section of the components not covered.

From what I gather, the list of "exclusions" on even the most comprehensive plan have been put together from parts that are most likely to fail. Ford has access to vast amounts of historical data, and they know exactly what components are likely to fail.

Don't think I'll be buying ESP plan again in the future.
