Or are they cross compatible with something else?

I thought "as built" was specific to your VIN.

I got mine off a Ford on-line source with my VIN.

Correct. As-built can be pulled from ford with a VIN, and is specific to the vehicle as it came off the line. I am adding aN oem trailer brake controller to my 2012 expy. It was not an option until 2013+, 2012 and back were aftermarket only. I wired in the oem tbc to the appropriate connections and the can bus, and was seeing if I could enable it: it looks like I may have to do a console swap as well or just the IC.

I’ve been poking around in forscan and found the language settings, which is associated with trailer gain for the f150.. but can’t get gain enabled; just sway. I found other things, like front parking sensor, compass stuff, automatic step rail, etc.. The default, just click enable .. is not there for the tbc in IC although the module does show up.
