I have a Torque scan tool that I bought to use on my 2000 BMW 528i. Having liftgate problems and thought I should scan for fault codes. I have the Torque app on my phone, can I just use that?

I scanned the ECU today with the Torque scanner, no fault codes stored in the ECU. I looked underneath the car and the wiring harnesses look good. Is there a better scanner?
