I am in the process of rebuilding the frond diff on my 2017 Expedition due to the apparently very common rough growling noise, turns out it was a carrier bearing and race that had damage. Looks like bad metal or heat treat. While on the last part of the tear down I noticed I didn't have a new oil baffle with the rebuild kit I ordered, and I can't find that part normally stocked or even listed anywhere, but it gets destroyed in order to remove the inner pinion bearing race. Does anybody know where to get this part from? It is literally the only thing keeping me from putting the diff back together and getting back on the road. Thank you.

Did you check with a Ford dealer part’s department using your VIN?

I’m giving them a call tomorrow morning, hopefully they’ll have the part. I was wondering if there were any any other options.

@BMW2FORD thank you for the link, that gave me exactly what I needed! I called the closest dealership parts dept and they found it by the part number. It’s amazing to me that this $2 part is not in any rebuild kits that I’ve found, and not sold separately anywhere other than from Ford. Here it is for anyone needing it:

Part # F65Z4631AA, oil baffle for front differential

UPDATE: I got the oil baffle and all bearings and seals installed, but the original differential carrier shims are way tighter going in now. I am struggling to get the carrier installed with the shims, has anyone done that before and have some tips?

update: I got the backlash dialed in at 0.006” and the attached pictures are my gear pattern, I think it looks pretty good but I’m looking for anyone’s thoughts on it. My only concern is the amount of preload on the carrier bearings, I’m at 4 or 5 in-lbs more than the pinion preload, if I’m using the right calculations that’s at or just below the minimum range of 16 to 24 in-lbs calculated preload on the carrier, does that seem right? Thank you.IMG_5453.jpegIMG_5454.jpeg
