On my 2001 XLT the fuel gauge only goes up about halfway when it is full. Where should I start looking to repair this issue? I did replace the fuel pump about 2 years ago. Is the the pump and the fuel float all in one unit? If so, I have a lifetime warranty on the fuel pump so I could just replace it agin. I was hoping for other options though as that was a pain. Thanks for your help in advance.

I just went thru this on a recent post There is a way to test the fuel gauge by taking 3 different resistors and hooking them up to the line going from the fuel pump to the inst panel. I will see if I can find the thread and post another reply to you

after you fill it and the gauge only reads half.
What happens when the gauge reads Empty how many gals do you need to fill it up One thing you may want to try is to re-check the connection at the fuel pump make sure the contacts of the connector are clean. You may want to use some electronic spray cleaner and also make sure you have a good tight connection.

Thanks for the info I will do a search for your previous post. When it gets close to being empty it behaves normally, the low fuel warning light goes on, and it takes the normal amount of fuel to fill back up. It just doesn't seem to want to go all the way up on the gauge when it is full.

Same problem here on my 01 5.4. It was fine, then became intermittent, now constantly shows exactly half full. Only goes to Empty when ignition is off. I'm using the trip odo to gauge my refills, and that's fine, but I'd like to fix the gauge. I'm okay with electricals, just need a place to start, most likely failing unit or connection. Thanks.
