Gas Mileage Report

Been reading through all this posts and can comment on some things. I use 91 octane (can't get 93 out here due to high altitude) and it does give better performance and mileage. Our costs for the upgrade is about 10-20 cents over the 87. When the 91 is too expensive, I will use 87 or 89.

As far as blowing out carbon, I am with Andy. This spring we took the new Expy on a New Mexico road trip. We spent one day driving slow, tight corners in the Mogollon NF and never had the chance to open it up. Well, the next day we hit the highway again and I noticed when flooring it to pass someone, a big puff of black smoke came out the rear. BTW, overall for the 2000 mile road trip, I averaged just above 19 mpg.

Jeff, I have hit 117 mph without even noticing it about a month ago passing on a state road in Nevada. Accelerated in no time and had no idea I was going so fast until I looked down. Holy Crap! What a motor!!

Bob,

You should be so lucky to be behind one of my Two stroke triple H1's or H2's....We used to call it "the deadly blue cloud" and would leave sports car drivers covered at the red lights....because NOTHING back then (bike or car) could match the 0-80mph acceleration.....


Here's a vid of one of my engines......nasty, very nasty.....the entire rear of the bike drops when the throttle is cracked....caused by the sudden and violent acceleration of the crankshaft!

This is the bike in the video but it's getting it's carbs switched along with a newly setup set of cylinders...

Mine with 4wd and 3.31 gears gets 19.3 if I set the CC to 72mph for a 584 mile trip. If I set the cruise for 67 mph I can get 19.8 mpg. I do this is a trip from Greensboro NC to Apopka FL and back a couple times a month. I run Michelin Defender LTX M&S and at 37psi. I also use Lucas fuel condition once a month.

Sometimes I hypermile just for fun...rarely. Most of the time testing the acceleration limits of my EL is way more fun.

I think mine has a speed limiter of 115mph in the ECU but don't know for sure. Saw it on a built sheet.

Expeditions are governed to 105 MPH and will not go higher without modifications. The speed is set for safety of passangers as handling is drastically reduced in these large vehicles at that speed. Here is an F-150 I’ll try to find an expy video.
