From my house to the Main street corner is exactly 1 mile.

My gas seems to eat up alot in that 1 mile span. For example: My gas says 255 miles left. My house to the corner is 1 mile. I start at 255 miles. When I get to the corner the gas reads 250 miles or sometimes lesser when it should just read 254 miles. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this problem. I'm thinking its my fuel filter since I have not changed it ever since they told me. Another thing is that my mpg only goes up to 12 mpg instead of 15 or 16 mpg. Does both these problems have anything to do with my fuel filter? Any suggestions would be helpful. Even better is if anyone of you lives here in SoCal and maybe help me with my truck...it would be most appreciated.

yes if theyre clogged...change them and see what u get...ALSO...don't rely on the computer mpg as it can be off than ur actual mileage and many ppl here can confirm they can be off...ALSO...check into buying a programmer to change ur ECU settings that will give u better fuel economy...new exhaust...e-fans

It may be because your commute it 2 short. Ifnur one mile commute had a lot of stop and go, it will kill your mileage. Every time i start up, mte drops anywhere from 3 to 5 mi. Another thing i noticed is that the start up uses a huge amount of gas. To explain, my battery died over the weekend. I filled it up on friday showing 385mte and jumped it a total of three times. Put in new battery on sunday evening. It was driven no more than 5 mi total, went to wrk today, mte was 340 and ate a full qtr of gas. If this isnt normal, i may have the same problem as you. Mines wont even reach the 20mpg highway no matter how much i baby it.

Remember your dealing with a 6000 lbs truck. Also for the first 3 to 4 miles the truck is not in closed loop, so the motor is not at operating temp to get its max economy

How many miles on it? Fuel filter, air filter, clean throttle body and MAF, reset computer, make a big difference, I've seen as much as 3 mpg difference from these maintenance items. Synthetic oil and synthetic differential fluid also help. Make sure your brakes are greased and aren't dragging. On a truck these things can effect gas mileage by 30% easily.
