Mine is at a constant 9 mpg primarily due to 3 major factors

1. Lots of idle time, I'm running a dual battery set up & a 200amp alternator to power up a 10,000 watt inverter that i use to power up my work related equipment.

2. 90% city driving, with 75% of that in O/D off.

3. I'm an aggressive driver, I'm heavy with my right foot.

And to Jexpedition07, now you get an idea why im averaging 9mpg, a v10 excursion would net me 5-6 mpg

Just curious, where did you put the second battery? Do you have pics of the setup?

It's in a custom made aluminum container mounted inside the spare wheel, the tension of the spare tire hoist holds it inside the wheel with pressure and it's been perfectly fine for a year. Next time I lower the spare tire I'll post pics never crossed my mind if anyone here was interested in it

***** I wish, a lot of hydrolic and electric tools at the same time. It's stable at 7800 watts, I burned through 7500 inverters like crazy...

I'm getting slightly better fuel use in the '17 than in the '07. Not sure what gets the credit and the '07 had 3.73 axles compared to 3.31 on the '17 a 12% difference.

All 3d generation Expeditions have 6-speed transmissions. I believe the '08 and later are different from the '07 but all are 6-speed.

Yea it's really the same the 07 and 08 had O/D off mode and in 09 and on they put in Tow/Haul mode button instead which Allows it to hold out in a gear longer. The O/D off ones on 07 and 08 disabled overdrive for towing. Same transmission still (6R75&80) just slight programming differences.

So we bought a '15 expoy limited with 42k on it. Had it about 2 months now.
The mileage is only running about 16/17 by the computer.
Shouldn't it be around 20?
We live in a flat land area no hills don't pull anything and driving habits are normal. My wife drives it mostly and she's light foooted for the most part.
We had an 07 epoxy EB with 5.4 previously that was getting about the same mileage.
Just thought it would be getting into the 20s with the ecoboost. Thanks for your input guys.

It depends on where you live and what gas you're running. I live in Texas and run 87 octane gas in my 2009 Expedition EL with 5.4 and 2WD. I get between 12-14 MPG around town depending on my driving style and how long I let it idle. We just spent 3 months in Colorado where the unleaded regular is 85 octane. I got 15-16 MPG around town driving the same way as I did in Texas. We just got back from Colorado and I filled up with 85 before I left. I made it to Dumas, Texas on about 1/2 tank, filled up and checked the mileage at 20! In Dumas, the regular octane was 86. We made it to the DFW area on 3/4 tank and I have not checked it yet. They change the octane rating of the gas depending on the altitude. Colorado was 6000' above sea level. DFW is 800'. Colorado=85 octane. Texas=87 octane. Makes a difference. AND THE COMPUTER LIES! Check your mileage the old fashioned way. Fill up the same way each time and divide your gallons into your miles driven. It's easy with the trip odometer. Just be sure to reset it to zero after you fill up & check the mileage.

I read the stupid government 10% ethanol mandate, lowers MPG by 3%. Using premium, 91 or higher can increase MPG by 5%. Some stations, now sell ethanol free 91. There is a web site site to locate them. A 8% increase is around 1MPG. The price of ethanol free 91 is 10% higher than premium. Pay me now, pay me later. Maybe Trump will get rid of regulation, blending ethanol in gasoline. Ford test fuel mileage, with a fuel that is not gasoline. That can explain the different results.

Same truck with the same miles.....all stop and go city I average around 13.5, on the freeway I get 21 or 22. I'd check the usual things: Tire pressure, air filter, etc

From this link: http://www.denverpost.com/2006/10/16/some-knock-states-lower-octane-levels/

Octane is an index number that measures a gasoline’s ability to resist engine knocking.

American refineries produce gasoline with octane levels ranging from 85 to 94. The lower the octane level in gasoline, the less expensive it is for refiners to produce.

Colorado and several other Rocky Mountain states have minimum octane levels of 85 for regular gas, while most states with lower elevations have a minimum level of 87.

Research several years ago from the American Petroleum Institute showed that lower air pressure at higher altitudes allows vehicles to perform as well with 85 octane as they would with 87 at lower altitudes.

But a 2001 study by the Colorado Legislative Council, the state legislature’s research arm, concluded that the altitude difference may apply only to older cars.

“Research findings indicate that newer vehicles manufactured in and after 1984 are equipped with sophisticated electronic control systems that minimize this altitude effect and may perform better using higher-octane gasolines,” the report said.

So why does Colorado still have 85 octane in regular gas, even if most cars are better suited to 87?

The wheels turn slowly in the world of octane.

Colorado’s 85 octane standard was set decades ago based on a recommendation by ASTM International, a body that establishes standards for everything from detergents to paving materials to gasoline octanes.

blah blah blah......

I didn't read all these posts.
I did read once however, that at ~2200 rpm (about 70mph in a 2010) the computer gets the WOT signal. If I am on cruise in NJ at 60mph I can do 19, If I hit 70 it's 15.

Hmm, I don't post too often. I have a 2015 Expedition XLT and I'm getting 20 local & 21 or better highway. I really was amazed by the mpg. I'm at sea level so maybe that is part of it. I tow a 27 foot trailer and averaged 13mpg to Arizona from Washington state last year. K&N filter might help you? Love my Beast!

Averaging some good miles. I got this 2015 XLT loaded, it's running like a dream. Daily driver in the country, 4x4.

It was a rental car in Colorado, abused. Didn't have an oil change until 40k. Put some 0w30 in there and a drop in K&N filter.
