I have a1998 expedition 5.4. Starting it this morning, the oil light came on and the temp gauge read hot. The oil level and coolant level are full. I have pressure on my oil pressure gauge. This sounds electrical, but I have no clue where to start diagnosing the problem

problem could be in the instrument cluster or PCM

The oil pressure switch sends a signal directly to the instrument cluster
as does the engine coolant sender The engine coolant sensor also goes thru the PCM

you may want to check the wiring to and from the PCM and the wiring to the instrument cluster for and signs of corrosion and to make sure all connections are tight.

also try and disconnect the battery for about 20 minutes as this will reset the PCM

Have you done any work to the expy recently in those areas

Smack the dash firmly and see if anything changes on the gauge readouts.

(This quick fix is not sanctioned by Ford but was taught to me by an electrical engineer as a first step at "reseating connections".
