Good or bad deal??

Just bought a 2003 eddie b. expedition 226,000miles 4 --1,200 bucks its in good shape but service engine light blinks, idle a bit rough-girl said it my have a bad valve.--havent smogged it yet--did i get a good or bad deal????is it expensive to get a valve job on it?? is it worth fixing? i want to keep it but dont want to dump money.

why u should get it checked by a reputable mechanic before purchase...shouldnt be more than a $100 to do a delivery inspection...some call it buyers inspection
