Really bad rain/storms here yesterday (south of Richmond, VA). Road covered, even some bridges on major roads were under water.

Had my youngest son's wedding to get to yesterday and we took the Expedition. Four of us in a big LE model (4WD, too). Took just over twice as long as it should have due to the road closures, back tracking to find paths we could use, traffic lines, etc.

I filled up on the way home last night (it was just over 1/2 tank but I try not to let it get under 1/2 tank).

It hit me, checking gas mileage, that this big old V8 powered extra long SUV with 4WD gets the same gas mileage as the vehicle it replaced - a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport with a 4.0 liter straight 6 4WD (much smaller and less comfortable SUV).

Just amazes me that something that weighs nearly twice as much gets the same mpg. Yeah, we're still glad we bought the big Expedition.

And, we brought a load of decorations, etc. back from the wedding. More room in the back with the 3rd seats folded down that was in the back of the Jeep, too.

Science and technology marches on & improvements to engines and transmissions result in improved gas mileage as well as less emissions. Of course there is the "group" of people who complain about the technology advances at the same time you appreciate them. Thats America in this day and age.

My comparison is my 2014 EL to my 2003 XLT. Both with 5.4's.
I get a few better MPG on the 2014 vs the 2003, comparing both #'s when they were "new".
The 2003 gets really bad gas mileage now that she's an old hag. Still love her though.
