Has anyone ever tried using a plastic hose like this to place spark plugs?

I'm trying to work up the courage to change my plugs in my new 97 expedition. The videos I'm watching and instructions I'm reading have me a bit nervous.

Any advice?

do it with a cool engine, don't go nuts when you tighten the plugs, the threads are prone to stripping and shooting plugs through the hood if you do...

yes, that will work, as seen in the video. What he is doing is using the tube to start the plug but it also prevents crossthread since the tube can't grip hard enough to twist a crossthreaded plug.

check your coolant crossover for leaks (while engine up to temp) that and the metal pipe tends to rust out that lives under the intake , if you find one you will want to do plugs with intake removed since the gasket requires you to remove it.

when replacing plugs torque the new plugs to specs approx. 16 ft. lbs.

A trick the I've used for years is a cheap 1/4" socket extension with a spark plug boot on the end of it. (clamped with a small spring hose clamp) You'll never cross thread a spark plug again if you use it.

Sparkplug socket and extension and just thread it by hand, done this forever works just fine

I have done it with a rubber hose all my life its a lot easier then a socket.I have a screw driver on one end with a hose clamp and it works perfect. And I use spark plug thread grease

Me too works great. Have done it on all my aluminum heads cars. Everything from Ford escorts to V12 jag beauties.
