Checking into the Expedition Forum for the first time! I just bought a used 2011 Expedition EL King Ranch fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. Long time Ford owner, first time having an Expy though and super happy with my decision.
I traded in a 2011 Ford Flex for the Expy seeking more room, more power, 4WD and better overall comfort when on road trips. My wife and I have two kids already and one more one the way, so we kinda out grew our Flex. Great vehicle though, no complaints about it. We are a Coast Guard family and we move a lot and every time we travel, we always wish we had more room. Once we found out she was pregnant, it made the decision easy...
After having the Expy for a couple of weeks we could not be happier about our decision. We find ourselves making excuses just to drive it. The comfort, room and confidence can't be beat.
I just completed an eight hour full detail two days ago. I washed the car first, Clay barred, Pinnacle swirl/haze remover, Pinnacle polish and two coats of Meguiars Ultimate synthetic wax. I used a Porter Cable 7424XP with cutting and polishing pads. What a long day... Even with using machinery, my arms were about to fall off by the end of the day. Wanted to make sure I prepped her before the winter. It was worth it though, hopefully the pictures do it justice, because it looks flawless in person. Wet and glossy smooth finish.
Only compliant so far is the paint job on the hood and tailgate. It seems mine suffers from what many others suffer from where the aluminum meets the steel, resulting in galvanic corrosion. So far, it's only on the inside edges and has yet to make its way to the outer surfaces. Once it does, I will have to take action. Its a shame that Ford won't own up to it, seeing how so many complaints have been filed against them for it. Who knows, maybe one day they'll do the right thing... not holding my breath for it though.
Other than the paint issues this SUV is absolutely perfect! I'm actually ready for another brutal winter up here just see how she handles in the snow and test the 4A out. Thanks for the great forum and look forward to browsing and contributing in the future.
