hei

I have a grinding noise when engine rpm is above 1100. the noise is present when driving and when park, but only above 1100 rpm.
it's like a smooth grinding noise, no ratling.

I plugged in an odblink mx (Tourqe app) reader an got p2197 , but next day the code var gone.

The vacuum boost is 24 at idle but drops down to 4 when accselrating.( normal or not)

Im no mechanic, but like to fix my own cars, if i can . Can this bee vacuum related, bearings or ?

its hard to localise where the sound is coming from, when im under the hood, maybe higher noise on driverside. any ideas how to locate the noise better?

any ideas what (and how)to check first?

(sorry if bad spelling, hope you understand)

.
Is it grinding or just a rattle (something vibrating)? Some loose piece of metal or that counterweight on the exhaust?

A lot of possibilities...does it happen when the a/c is running?

could be the belt tensioner, or a pulley or bearing or other FEAD part spray a litte water or WD 40 around the areas and see if the noise changes

just because the pulleys feel tight doesn't tell you anything since the tension of the belt is holding them and if you have a bad bearing the pulley could feel ok anyway

It may come down to taking the belt off and spinning each one individually if it is coming from the FEAD area

You don't even have to remove the belt entirely. Pull the tensioner back and slip the belt off the alternator and it will be slack on everything else and you can spin the pulleys individually.

I just changed my tensioner a couple of weeks ago because it was noisy. You could feel the grinding in the pulley once I spun it by hand, but I used a stethoscope to diagnose it initially.

Starting with a cold engine take the belt off and run the motor . Rev the motor to see if the noise is still there . No noise it's in the accessory belt area .
If noise is still there most likely in the timing chain is stretched and hitting the inside of the cover

You might also want to check your fan clutch. I've just dealt with this on my Chevy. The bearings were going bad. I removed the fan, reinstall the belt and ran it to isolate the problem and determine where the noise was coming from. Apart from the grinding noise everything else was in good running order and no other symptoms were present.
