roof racks are so hard to find for an expedition because all of them are way to small and would look stupid on it. I am just gonna make one our of Chromoly or Al. What the heck.

It is a pretty badass rack tho. They don't have anything Ford specific unfortunately but I'm sure you could fab up your own mounts pretty easily.

Check out Surco first and it will give you the right rack and hardware specs, then go to Amazon and get it for half the price. I'm looking at getting either the 50"x60" or 50" x 72" surco. The problem is that they sell their rack separately from their hardware which is stupid, Amazon is the place to go. And, if you don't want to spend the $$$ on the Surco, Rage makes a 45"x62.5" I think. It's way cheaper, in price and from reviews I see build quality, but then it comes down to whether you need the utility or want the look.

From my previous Jeep Cherokee days, I found that not all racks are created equal! Driving on pavement is one thing, but washboard roads and trails in Moab will destroy an inferior rack in no time. Side to side wobble is the enemy and I found some of the expensive racks (won't name any names here, hopefully they are better now) were no better than the cheap ones. Some of the tougher ones I have seen are Wilderness Racks by Garvin. I used one for years on my XJ after beefing up the rail mounts and welding the sections together (versus just bolted)- it was a good rack.

In looking for a rack for the new-to-me Expedition, I am not finding much I like (considering price, durability and looks). I am actually thinking about fabbing my own over the winter because it seems that Expedition add ons (functional ones made for off road use) are not that plentiful.

There's actually a shop in Texas I think, that I found on ebay that will make you a rack for around $220+$40 shipping that looks great. I'm planning on getting one at some point in time

Can't afford any more height (garage clearance issues) so I ordered additional cross bars for the stock roof rack which should be perfect, have zero effect on mileage and be silent.
