Another ford suv, another accident. Wife was driving to school when someone pulled out of a side street and hit the fender. Ironically, she was hit by fords in all the accidents she's been in. She seems fine but still being seen by medical. The truck did it's job, which I'm happy for, both her and the other driver were OK and walking around. I just put her up for sale...this is going to change that plan substantially now.

Sorry for your loss, but glad everyone is ok, just be sure your wife goes to the hospital for a full exam, since alot of potential damage can't/won't be discovered by EMT's & their limited equipment/skills at the scene....

If the accident was/is determined to be the other driver's fault (??), they will be responsible not only for the vehicle & property damage, but also all medical expenses...

As for the vehicle, based on those 2 pics, it may be repairable, provided the frame was not bent, and the drive train is ok, and everything else can be fixed without too much trouble...

You may already know this, but in the last few years, a lot of insurance companies seem to be more likely to total out most vehicles rather than authorizing repairs, since alot of other issues can be discovered at the shop, which will add to the repair costs...

When my wife's 015 Acadia was totaled out due to an accident in '22, they gave us 2 options:

A) Take a large check and they haul it away to the junk yard, OR

B) Take a smaller check, keep the vehicle & do whatever we wanted with it.. the problem with this option is that the vehicle's title will be converted to a Salvage title, but here's the killer part: They (nor any other insurance co) will NOT provide any insurance coverage for any salvage-titled vehicles, which in my state makes it ineligible for registration & plates....so basically that would have turned it into a non-drivable hunk-o-junk for us :(

Needless to say we took option A :)

Good luck & please keep us updated :)

Luckily, both my spouse and the other driver were safe. We live in an at fault state and the other driver was considered at fault. Your right, I don't think the vehicle will be totaled out unless there's frame damage. I do think there's atleast 10k worth of damage so well find out soon enough.

Good to hear everyone is ok !

Depending on the year & it's current market value, $10k could be enough for the Ins. co. to scrap it & pay you for it...

Just be sure to get at least 1-2 estimates, other than the one from the adjuster, that way you will know if the shops are jacking the estimate just to get the insurance to scrap it instead of fixing it.... cause some adjusters are ok but others are pure shisters...

I did this by making a copies of the adjuster's report, blacking out the prices & labor hours, then had the shops write in their numbers. And then went home & compared them... fortunately, my adjuster was pretty straight up & close to the shops rates, so I let 'em total it out, as it would have cost more to fix than to replace....

Turns out that since we had taken such good care of the car, the insurance paid us ~$3000 more than what we paid for it, so we were happy campers :D

Years ago when my daughter turned 16 and started to drive she wanted a small car. We insisted on a SUV based of the higher probability of driver survive-ability in a crash. Your wife is the beneficiary of this same.

One reason they so quick to "total" the car is that they sell them at auction and frequently does not cost them anything. Coparts is one of the auction sites that sells insurance totaled cars / trucks.

The shop that it was taken to called the other day and said they can't even work on it because the rear quarter is damaged and the whole thing needs to be replaced. We re looked at pics and the rear door and panel is indeed damaged as well.

Did they give any indication as to what it would cost to do the work ?

And knowing the insurance companies like I do, I'm pretty sure you will be welcoming it to the afterlife :)
