I just installed a set of 4300k 35w HIDs on my 03 expy from ddmtuning. After trying them out I noticed that with the headlights on auto, when I start it up, only one headlight comes on. I have to turn them off and back on again for them to come on. I also noticed that when driving at dusk, when the headlights turn on when driving, it would "reset" the ecu and all the gauges would ping hard right and all other electrical components would quickly shut off and power up again.

I was wondering if anyone had any insight on this or has had the same problem. i just ordered the HID harness from them to see if that fixes it.

check your wiring, sounds like something is back feeding. I would start with the one that doesn't come on automatically.

Every car iv seen with a aftermarket HID's will only light up one upon starting. Mine do it too on all my cars and I even rewired them through relays so they get a direct power source from the battery. Your going to have to keep them off auto. It will also save t he life of your HID's this way too. As for your electrical shutting down as your HID's fire up, That is caused by the current the ballast's pull apon start up.

I never had that issue with my oem lights...nor did I have the problem of one light turning on and having to manually switch on/off...now the ping of ecu I had and it was my precursor to my alt going bad...

I really haven't seen this issue with OEM HID's either. I can leave my fogs on auto and they both light up upon start up. That kit is different from the rest of my HID's and may require less current for some reason. Most ballast usually require a lot of current to ignite the bulbs and when you try to start it with the HID's on auto the current the starter takes to fire the engine will over power the Ballast leaving them unable to start properly due to lack of current.

Again...I've never had the issue...my hids come on fine in auto and manually turn on...switch the ballast and see what happens...if it happens on the other side either get a new ballast or buy a relay...

when I got my kit, I had to swap wires in the harness. The problem was that the positive was where the negative had to be and vise versa. My Navigator did something similar when I first got them but I cant recall what

I just bought some Opt7 6000k HID kit. I have two sets. 35w and 55w. Which do you guys recommend I install in my '04 expy? I also got the relay harness. Is there anything special I should look out for or do when installing them?

I ended up going with the 35w. I had to reverse polarity in order for it to turn on and work. Was simple enough. I thought it would be hard..but its really plug and play.

Update: after having the Hid kits installed for low beam and fog light, they are working ok. Im having similar issues when leaving light switch in auto during dusk. Driving in the city at dusk, I drive in and out of sunlight and shadows from the buildings, and I can hear some kind of relay switching on and off the lights. It'll do it a couple times while im driving then all my gauges go crazy and ping. My trip odometer will reset too. I end up just manually switching the lights on now. Other then that im extremely happy with the upgrade.

almost sounds like you are having a large voltage drop which may cause the PCM to act up due to the voltage loss. Also could be a week battery or signs that the alternator is going bad. If you have access to a volt meter it may be wise to check your voltage and also do a load test by watching the meter and turning the lights on and other items such as the heater fan on high or have the a/c compressor come on There was a recent post and video on the forum as to how to preform this test. I'll see if I can find it and then post you a link to it

Mine does the same thing. I never realized it could be as a result of the lights until reading this thread though. I'll check it out at the shop in a few.

You can try the relay harness... You connect it straight to the battery and draws the necessary voltage from the battery to fire the HID instead of drawing it from the factory wire harness.

You can get them on ebay or Amazon. Search "HID Relay Harness"
