Wondering what to go with and what is what. You have the lights with the ballast and some that are just bulbs.

Can you post a photo with what type of light you are using either ballast or bulb?

Im looking to go bright but with only a little hue of blue. But BRIGHT. Also heard that the ones with a ballast doesnt last long so Im not looking for that!!

Hah, I'll clear some things up. All HIDs use a ballast. Some have the ignitor and ballast in one box, others have them in seperate, smaller boxes (these are known as slims).

Anything that is just a bulb is not an HID kit. It is just a halogen/xenon filled bulb with a blue coating on it to make the light coming out appear whiter. These bulbs, because of the filtering, are usually a lot dimmer than stock (assuming same wattage), or are about the same (but will be higher in wattage.)

You have a 99, right? You'll probably want clear style headlights (think Harley F150) since frosted lenses glare and diminish output.

Since you want a little bit of blue, you'll probably want a 9007 bi-xenon 6000k kit. Just remember that the higher you go in the kelvin scale, the more blue/purple the light becomes, but also, the less usable light you have. Make sure to aim the headlights down a little to help with the glare.

Here is one pic I have of 4300k in my low beams. I'll try to get another shot with a better camera.

Here's a couple shots.

Looking at the headlight.

Sorta of an output shot. Kind of sketchy cuz I stopped in the middle of a street when there were no cars coming.

Again, I'll try to get some on a pitch black road.

As a side note, I'm sure I'd reduce the number of stray beams of light if I had black housing headlights. As you can see, a lot of light get reflected around in the housing. I'm sure black housings would help.

HIDs. You can get them cheap from places like DDM or VVME. As I said earlier, you'd need bi-xenon 9007 (or whatever bulb fits in your headlight) 5000-6000k.

OK got some new light bulbs they rock! Went a little higher 7000k and Im glad I did. However nothing is said on the packaging about them being xenon so I bought another set that had listed them as xenon but no keldon "sp?" listed with those. Forgot the brand, to lazy to go to the truck and get it:eek:but will post later.
Both had the same wattage 100/80, the 7000k might even be 100/90. "not going to truck"
I wasnt sure of which one would be better so I put one of each in. The ones listing the 7000k out did the xenon.

It took about a hour for me to adjust driving to the blue hue's and color change of objects "not much change". After time you start to notice signs way down the road starting to glow even over other headlights in front of you. Im aimed low.

Thanks for the help guys. There are a lot of options and you helped me pin point what I wanted.

Got the lights at a flea market, xenon @ $15 and the 7000k $20:D

Ouch. I would advise against those. One of 2 things is bound to happen: 1) Your headlights are going to melt (because they are plastic), 2) your wiring will deteriorate over time from the added current...

The amount you spend on both bulbs would have been almost enough for a DDM kit.

VVME and DDM are "brands" of HID kits.

Are you sure? If im not mistaken the most pulled would be 8.3 amps on the high beams. I tested your theory though on over heating the wiring. I put a old bulb in and hit the wiring with a laser thermostat and there was no difference in temperature from one to the other.

The back of my headlights are cast aluminum or cast something “no plastic but the lens and should deal with the extra little bit of heat from the bulb ok.
I would think there would be a lot of talk going around if it was a common problem.

Idk guess Ill just keep a eye on it.

I know the systems with a ballast can pull to much load but Im running a fake HID.

HIDs actually run with less current than a stock 55W bulb. They run at 35W, but do pull more when they first start up.

Running at 100W, I'm more worried about the front, clear part to start melting/crazing. Tis one of the reasons some aftermarket lights are glass.

Either way, enjoy your bulbs. :)

can you put hids in stock housing lights?

Yes you can, BUT Im not an HID person. The problem is that all of theses headlights are not designed for HIDS they are designed for halogens. When replaced with HIDs the chrome background in the headlights causes a glare and spreads the light blinding people but you can adjust the headlight to prevent that. You are not really getting more light bc it disperses since there is nothing projecting the light, its all mental.

I had some on my King Ranch and ended up taking them off.

ya man there bright as hell, and no issues but keep in mind there "for off roading only" so use a your own risk....lol
07 expy takes h13 bulb so its a little more pricey. i would verify with the seller that theyre high and low beams like usually on the 9007's its 80/100w and one thing also is that 1 out of about every 10 bulbs is usually a dud and the seller will replace them with a new set.
