That one posted is for F-150. I drive off road and don't see the utility of that. I use common sense when off road and if there is potential to damage my front end and intercooler, I don't go.

There are many better ways of spending $1150 (before installation). But to each his own....

BTW, Welcome to the forum. It is good to have a fellow Nevadan aboard. You apparently ride motocross, but while the Expedition can do some amazing things, jumping sand dunes is not one of them!!

Personally, as someone who builds engines....while mounting the intercooler out of the way makes sense from a damage standpoint, from a effectiveness standpoint it makes little to zero sense. The engine bay gets hot, VERY hot and of course any 2nd grader knows what heat does....it rises...quickly. The whole idea of the air-to-air intercooler is to cool the charge prior to being stuffed into the engine. The intake system plumbing hots hot, heating the air. Compressing the air causes the temp to rise further & higher temp intake air is the enemy of good power in a turbocharged intake system. Many race engines use a water/glycol mix to cool the charge or others use methanol or even H2O injection to reduce the latent heat so you can see that placing it above the "heat generator" is very, very bad from an effectiveness point of view.....hopefully, no one is considering 4 wheeling their 50-60K truck over the rocks but a heavy duty steel guard might be a better means of protecting it?
