I was going through the build list for Ford Expy 2001 (focusing on the EB to be purchased used, obviously...) and i had a couple questions about the following features

HomeLink
Is this just a programable garage door opener mounted in the visor (with possible other electronics in the grill or elsewhere)?? Or is there some other function to the three buttons on the visor?

battery Saver
I saw this on the features list on this website...anything special other than providing some kind of protection to not run down the battery? Possibily tied to turning off the llights automatically?

SecureLock (Passive AntiTheft System)
Is this just the keypad door unlock pad near the handle...or would this be also an actual car alarm...

High Altitude Mods
In the feature list it mentions a "package" that mods the car for extended use at high elevations....does anyone know what the mods are??? would be interested as I am in Colorado Springs at 6k feet...

Thanks for any feedback

1) Homelink - Just a fancy reprogrammable garage door opener. You can also programm a couple of other functions, like turn lights on if you have other remote controlled stuff.
2) Battery Saver - Just a relay with a timer. If you leave the headlights or interior lights on for x minutes, the relay will turn them off thus saving the battery from draining.
3) SecureLock - Your ignition key works with a RF reciever to make sure you can only turn the car on with YOUR key(s). It actually has a small chip embedded into it to do this. It IS NOT an alarm system, just as it says Passive Anti-Theft.
4) Not sure about the Hi altitude mods, but they are probably emmission items to account for the reduced oxygen levels at higher altitudes.

Hope this helps.

Homelink has been discussed somewhere in here before.

As for the battery saver, yes it is designed to keep enough charge in the battery to start the car. It will turn off the lights and other electronics to keep the battery charged.

The anti-theft is not just the keypad. It uses a special ignition key with a chip inside. The vehicle is then programmed to "accept" each of the keys. If it doesn't have the key or is not a recognized chip, the truck won't start. NOTE: if you find a used Expy, make sure it has two keys with it. If not, your looking at a trip to the dealership at a cost of $50- $150 depending on the dealership. If you have two keys, you can "program" others without having to go to dealership.
