I looked at a truck the other day that had a very nice and clean stereo set up but the wiring for it was unbelievable!!! You couldnt see much if any at all but it almost seem like it was a little excessive. How important is wiring to a pretty basic system? 2 amps, 4 speakers and a sub for clean sound, not blow your ears off
a good install should be like you described...you shouldnt see wires all over the place or anything else unless there just are good places to conceal them...most people who install their own systems dont care about the wires showing but if youre paying for it...then that should be something they work hard to do...hiding wires...
as far as crisp sound...it depends on the power your wanting to push...if youre trying to 1500rms than i would think you would need at least 4ga wiring...that real 4ga wiring...not the stuff on ebay that says 4 ga but its really 8 because of the thickness of the protective shielding...the actual copper wire should measure 4 ga or whatever gauge it says...my setup was bought off ebay and it said 4ga wire...once i cut into it...8 ga..
and its the same concept as getting an exhaust system...you want it to open up for better performance....same with wiring...the bigger the gauge (lower in # i.e 6 better than 8/4 better than 6)...the more current will flow through the wire and not be restricted...equalling more power, harder hitting subs...but you can always turn the gain down, lower the setting on the x-over...simply turn the vol down...
also, look into components for your doors...2 and 3-way speakers are good but to get the highs/mids in the right place for the frequency...components amp'd up are best....
im not an installer...just my thoughts from my experience...i leave it to the pros when its more than a basic 1/2 sub/amp install...
