my tranny is at 158,000 on the original one and on cold mornings (below 40 degrees) the first few shifts it revs before shifting gears when the truck is cold. Once in a while i also get a slight pause during an upshift. Obviously my transmission is on its last leg with these symptoms so im wondering those of you who have had your 6R75/80 trannys replaced what was your cost and did you go new or remanufactured? Also would like to hear on what you think of your replacement whether you made the right choice or not. I have been told the rev symptom is a death sentence for the 6R80 and that my pan is most likely full of metal shavings so at this point I’m running it into catastrophic failure, which apparently can be a while. I can’t complain it’s given 158k in service and that’s alot out of a ford tranny lol.

Not the exact tranny as you but the 4l60e in my 05 cost 3,200 for a reman. It went at right around 130K... not too happy about that. I just traded it in on a 17 EL. I barely got what the transmission cost me back in trade value lol.

Congrats on your 17’. I average 19-20,000 miles per year so a reman worries me a bit. Yea it sucks to fix only to lose it on trade in, id like to run this rig till 300k. The 5.4 still purs like it’s a day old.

I went with a Jasper unit which may have inflated the cost. The warranty was 100K, and a couple years 2 or 3 if I remember.

Is it very difficult to access/pull the magnet and see what kind of shavings you're dealing with?

Well now i found out it may need calibration. Apparently there is a Ford TSB for a cold rev before the fluid reaches temp then it subsides, which is exactly what it does. Anyone else have this experience? Did a calibration change it?

That could be good news, if it already hasn't caused damage.

Yeah I’m not sure, after reading a lot of the pre 2010 6R80 trannys have this issue and hard shifting issues that many haven’t been able to get resolved with a recalibration, or any fix....Thinking it maybe time to trade up to a Newer GMC Yukon soon. The 2015s will be in my price range soon enough.

So you are really thinking about going away from the Expedition?

The dang thing is a ZF licensed Ford copy of ZF 6hp26 (with some beefed up shaft somewhere so no not directly interchangeable though afaik)

Imho, the ZF original is worse btw, never seems to survive anywhere near the kind of mileage on bimmers that some people get with em on Fords

My ZF 6hp26-equipped bimmer has been getting jerky starts for the last 30k or maybe more btw, and still hasnt crapped out in major ways though

Yes Id like to go that route and try something different, preferably a used Denali to get the 6.2 motor over the 5.3 LS powertrain Although the 5.3 has a good rep so it wouldn’t be out of question. They are nice trucks overall

Yea apparently a lot of them were jerky and like this from day one on the 2010 and backward models. Some just ran like that and never suffered damage it’s tough to know how it shakes out. Like you said Sometimes these trannys act up and don’t experience a failure so for now I’m just going to keep running it. I ordered a tranny pan filter replacement a while back maybe I’ll have the pan fluid changed and filter swapped.

I looked at the Chevy's and GMC's before I bought the Expedition and I just couldn't find anything that I really liked. Plus ever since the government bailout, I've decided not to be a GM customer as long as the government still holds stock in the company.

For a Ford Factory Remanufactured unit it’s $3,200 for the tranny itself. New units of the 6R80 are NLA.

Pull the fuse for the PCM or Transmission module. Your vehicle will re-learn shift strategy. There is a honest, local shop, in my area that charges $1200-$1500 for a rebuild. Maybe find a low mileage used one. Spending $3200 on a 10 year old vehicle, is insane and trade in time.

This transmission doesn't work that way. Uses Keep Alive Memory (KAM) like your PC. Data is saved so that in event of a fuse being pulled or battery being replaced it won't have to relearn.

There was a well-known TSB for 2007 models that called for a software update for funky 1-2 shifts and other issues.

Disconnect battery. Turn on headlights for 3 seconds. That will drain remaining power. Beware, this will re-boot everything. Let engine idle with AC on, for 60 seconds. My transmission on my 2011 Mustang(6r80), went "nuts" after my battery died. It was banging/shifting hard and would not upshift, past 2nd gear. I shut car off and ran perfect, after restarting. The owners manual has a warning of "erratic" shifting, following battery changes.

Yea I’m having the 1-2 shift issue occasionally and cold rev. No rdjelp I’m not spending the $3,200 i was just saying that’s what ford wants for it. Like i said ill be looking to move to a 2015+ Yukon soon.

Do your homework. 2015-2017 Escalade/Yukon are having many issues, one is bad transmissions.

Yep i have to watch for harsh or delayed shifting and also buffering and vibrations in the cab. I’ve been schooled on what to look for when I go test driving. For now im keeping this rig rolling. Hopefully the tranny holds out, ill probably have the fluid changed with filter.
