Well As of today it’s sh*t the bed completely, looks like I’m looking at either having my tow guy haul it to the scrap yard or putting in a tranny

Hi,
I had a chat with some guys from ZF here in Germany and with my local "US Car" Dealer.

According to them (both!) it is crucial to change the transmission fluid every 40.000 Miles to prevent damages!
No matter what Ford says! For BMW with a similar gearbox it is offficially 100.000 km but only because the BMW-car is much lighter than our Expy and better cooled.

After changing fluids immediatly just relearn shift points..here 2 very useful vids about it.

Good luck, Alex

Probably a good idea, hindsight is good. My tranny is being replaced and my truck will be stuck at the shop for a while. My mechanic said the 6R80 isn’t a very well known transmission nor are any of the modern ones. Not uncommon to see newer trannys of any variety blow up prematurely. We don’t live in the days of the reliable four speed anymore. We sacrifice longevity and function to fuel mileage.

[QUOTE="JExpedition07, post: 279619, member: 55322"Thinking it maybe time to trade up to a Newer GMC Yukon soon. The 2015s will be in my price range soon enough.[/QUOTE]

Think twice before going to a GM SUV. IN the Expys, the seats all fold flat to the floor. In the Suburbans at least, you have to take one seat out and the other stays up in your way. Don't know if it's the same with the Yukons. I test-drove a Suburban when I was looking for my Expy. It was the LTZ fully loaded. Had a problem with the pulsating brakes.

Your mechanic is a ******* liar.

The Ford 6r80/ZF 6HP family is THE original 6 speed auto with high torque and horsepower compatibility.

It was literally in everything from Land Rovers to Hyundais.

6 speeds are junk. 8 and 10 speeds are cow manure.

So you killed a coil pack by washing the engine compartment eh?

Did these things come with covers that everybody just ditched early on, or is there really only a lousy rubber COP boot keeping moisture and crap out of the spark plug wells???

Lousy rubber boot. They said they’ve seen this many times before and said to dry clean the engine from now on, noted lol.

Had same issue on #2 cylinder after a coolant leak and/or sloppy heater hose hose replacement.

Mine threw p0202 and p0302 codes though. Plug and COP fixed p0202, but the misfire and p0302 stayed until I swapped out the #2 injector too

They ran it until it threw a misfire code, i wanted the tranny fluid changed anyway since it’s been strange lately, it’s acting good now.
