So my new 5.4 is at the machine shop getting machined and my rotating assembly is getting balance. I could yank to old motor out of my 99 and try to sell it but nobody is going to buy a 5.4 with 180,000 miles on it so I want to send it out in style. I have a nitrous express system I am putting on it this week at work. I also want to put a diaper on it because I do plan on killing this motor with nitrous. Question is how much nitrous do you all think it will handle? I am starting with a 150 shot and going from there. I haven't decided if I want to do a second stage yet or not. I was thinking this motor should be able to handle a 250 shot at least a couple times before it lets go. I should have dyno results and videos come wednesday and hopefully track times on thursday. I will be happier than a pig in shit if I break into the 7's at the 1/8th mile lol. Oh its a 99 eb awd.

Well.... the cracked powdered metal rods are the weak link and may likely be the first to go venting the block w/ catastrophic engine failure.

Among the lightning community 450ish rwhp seems to be the magic number. Some have gone more and some less on stock rods. Since nitrous does not draw any hp from the crank I will guess 500 rwhp is possible.

So my guess is it will handle the 250 shot without a problem. This of course assumes a perfect tune and proper fuel supply & no nitrous backfires.



I don't think a 250 shot will be quiet enough to run a 7.90 in the' heavy expy. Mine tipped the scale at 5,790 pounds race weight with me in it, minus the spare and about 1/3 tank of fuel. My best 1/8 mile run was a 8.0 I believe on my 12.61 pass. That's in the neighborhood of 300 additional hp over stock plus or minus.

I would say mid to low 8's on a 250 shot assuming you have a pi motor.
