Hub Assembly repair

Hello, I was wondering how hard is it to replace a hub assembly on a
2000 4X4 5.4 Expy. I just bought the complete hub assembly. I went online and from what I read it appeared that my front passenger hub assemble was going out, it would make a grinding humming noise when i would make right turns on on the freeway. It also feels like its gripping the whole time while i drive. So anyhow, I bought the hub assemble and I am curious as to how easy/difficult is it to replace. Im about to take on the tast tomorrow. I can replace brakes and Ive done replaced the bearings and brakes on my 4X4 Bronco, so Im curious how much harder is an Expy? Any help or links to replacement would be greatly appreciated. pertty strait foward... remove brake caliper and bracket, rotor. remove the axel nut. remove the three bolts that hold the assembly to the steering knuckle.

my need to persaude it off,. i use a slide hammer and usually comes off rather easily

reverse order to install

Well guys, i did it! No problems. I even changed the #1 cylinder COP. Thank God that one was the easy one. It took me 4 hours to do the hub and COP but I didnt have the spindle nut socket, so i had to go buy one and I went really slow so I didnt miss anything.

I do have one other question for you guys. I have the hub assembly with the abs wire connected, my questions is, I also have a 97 Expy 4x4 that has a bad abs sensor on the same exact hub. Can i pull the abs wire sensor off the old 2000 expy hub and install it on my 97 Expy hub? I had a diagnostics done on my 97 and they told me i needed the abs sensor and i had to buy the whole hub assembly, but when i pulled off the old one from my 2000 hub, it looked like it only one nut holding on the sensor/wire harness?
Hope i make sense with my question?

Yup and i was happy because Im not a mechanic but my brother is and he pretty much sits there and quides me. I just replaced the brakes on my 95 Bronco that was a long process too becus my bearing nut was loose.

the sensor should be the same, it is a allen head bolt that holds the sensor in just be gentle when removing the good one so it will still work when you put it it.

One thing i would do different next time is, slightly loosen the spindle nut while tire is on, becus once its lifted the hub is just going to spin and you cant step on brakes becus the caliper is off. What we did is, we got a large breaker bar and basically placed it between the studs until the end of the breaker bar was pressed against the ground and jammed in between studs, that way I was able to get the hub from spinning and had the leverage to loosen the spindle nut. Hope that made sense

Thanks for the info, I think i may have just saved myself $170.
FYI, Autozone had Timken hub assembly for about $170 which was the best price i found for a quality part.

thats good to know supermario thx. i was curious how hard these hubs where to replace. i think i have a bearing going out not sure though it grinds a lil on and off but only when on the highway. or atleast thats the only time i notice

2000eb, I have had a few hubs go out on my truck (that happens when you run 37" tires). What I have noticed with mine is that you will get a hum up around 55 mph or so and if you do a high speed turn (say a turn in the highway at normal speed), you can make the noise go away going one direction, but it will remain when you turn the other way. You can get the same thing by doing an aggressive lane change. The direction that the noise goes away is the side that the hub is going out on.

that makes me lean towards u joints again lol the appear good and feel good even had a shop look at them they test drove and did not know where the vibration was coming from they said it would get worse before it goes out. lol dont like that answer if my vehicles do somethin funny mechanically i fix it given i have the money example my bronco t case and rearend torn apart, and my corolla still wrecked, but is a daily driver and runs as good as new if not better
