I know there are plenty of threads with things related to this, but this is one is odd to me. It just started today. Basically as I hit 70 mph it sounds like a hum is coming from the front of the truck. I was thinking it was my wheel hub going bad, but both were replaced maybe 40,000 miles ago.

The hum cuts in and out, lasting about as long as I can say one onethousand and then stopping for one onethousand. On a side note, as I was driving down my street this morning, I heard a metallic clicking, but it went away after about 100 feet. It has never done that either.

I am thinking that it is the CV joints going bad, but I have always heard that they only make noise when doing sharp turns at low speeds etc. This is in a straight line, at high speeds.

If anyone has any ideas, I am open to suggestions. It is a 4x4, so it could be the front diff, but I am hoping that is not the case. Any advice is welcome, thanks in advance!

I'd put my money on the CV joint. It could be causing a high speed hum as well. Give it a little time and it'll make itself more noticeable.

Is it possible that humming could be the air ride suspension? Mine does the same thing then clicks off.

The pump would have to be really loud to hear it at highway speeds. I can't hear mine when I'm cruising down the highway. But I could imagine if your air ride pump was going bad it making enough noise to hear it at those speeds.
